Daniel Yergin: The Prize. The Epic Quest for Oil, Money and Power
I know that I'm late to the party, but this is an excellent book and required reading if you want to understand 20th and 21st century history.
The Best Albums of 2001
When I was in high school and at university I used to exchange best-of-the-year lists with my friends. I thought I'd pick up the tradition. So here goes:
1. Tool: Lateralus
2. Radiohead: Amnesiac
3. The Strokes: Is This It
4. System of a Down: Toxicity
5. New order: Get ready
6. Nick Cave: No more shall we part
7. Röyksopp: Melody a.m.
I'm surprised Lateralus doesn't top the list of music critics as I'm convinced in years to come it will be considered a classic and a masterpiece. As to the albums by New Order and Röyksopp I've included them because there are some songs on both albums that I like a lot, even though there are a number of songs I just skip.
