Daniel Yergin: The Prize. The Epic Quest for Oil, Money and Power
I know that I'm late to the party, but this is an excellent book and required reading if you want to understand 20th and 21st century history.
The Best Music Videos of 2002
A selection of my favourite music videos of the past year. Disclaimer: I only check for broken links once a year. Where possible I try to include (a link to) the official video.
Kylie Minogue: Come into my world. Directed by Michel Gondry. What's better than one Kylie? Four Kylie's!
Moby: In this world. Quite moving animation actually.
Tosca: Honey. Sensuous dancing.
Telepopmusik: Breathe. Director: Jordan Scott. A weird and beautiful video. If you like David Lynch you'll like this video.
Etienne de Crecy: Tempovision. More great animation this time set on the stock exchange. Do check out my own project The Fisher Account created at the same time.
Chemical Brothers: Star Guitar. Directed by Michel Gondry. Notice how the landscape and the music correlate, and yes, it was filmed with a DV camera from an ordinary train, what about that.
1 Giant Leap: My Culture. Another one of those "wish I'd made it" videos. I like the transparent walking people at the end and the way the buildings just appear and turn around.
DJ Shadow: Six Days. Director Wong Kar-Wai. Beautiful cinematography.
Sven Väth: Mind games. Choreographed by an old friend of mine, Jill Johnson and also features three other old friends, Jone San Martin, Alan Barnes and Irene Klein, all (former) dancers with the Ballett Frankfurt (now the Forsythe Company).
And the videos for which embedding was disabled... FC Kahuna: Glitterball directed by 4K has an interesting concept and special effects that go well with the title and the music. Basement Jaxx: Where's your head at. I like the concept, perhaps not unsurprisingly, considering my own research. DB Boulevard: Point of View. Just a funny animation video. Clinic: Walking with thee. Another nice animation involving mannequins.
