Daniel Yergin: The Prize. The Epic Quest for Oil, Money and Power
I know that I'm late to the party, but this is an excellent book and required reading if you want to understand 20th and 21st century history.
The Best Music Videos of 2005
Some of my favourite music videos of the year. Another poor year.
OK Go: A Million Ways. Directed and choreographed by Trish Sie. Definitely my favourite music video of the year and one to which I will refer in my lectures and papers for years to come.
The White Stripes: The Denial Twist. Director: Michel Gondry.
Fatboy Slim: The Joker. Director: Jon Watts. Cats in drag. It reminds me of those 70s postcards.
Jason Forrest: Steppin' off. Director: Jon Watts. Do watch this totally hilarious 70s style video. It's like Lord of the Rings meets Led Zeppelin.
The Kills: The Good Ones. Nothing special but the video captures the idea of a band playing at gallery opening in Chelsea.
Also worth mentioning The Prodigy: The Voodoo People. Blindfolded people run through a city and the countryside. Whoever gets furthest wins. LCD Soundsystem: Tribulations. Directed by Dougal Wilson. Beck: Girl.
