The Best Music Videos of 2006

25.12.2006

Even as I grow older I still enjoy watching music videos. So here's my list of favourite videos of the past year.

OK Go: Here It Goes Again. Directed by Trish Sie. This is one of the videos I frequently refer to in my lectures and papers.

Massive Attack: Live with me. Directed by Jonathan Glazer.

Thom Yorke: Harrowdown Hill. Directed by Chel White. Quite brilliant. If you like the aerial footage that looks like a toy world you'll like the photography of Olivo Barbieri.

Depeche Mode: Suffer Well. Director Anton Corbijn. I like the moment when he tries to cross the road to get to Heaven and is nearly driven over by a car.

Beck: Hell Yes. Featuring Sony's dancing robots.

The Cardigans: I Need Some Fine Wine. One of the most stylish videos of the year. Or maybe it's the colours that I like. I don't know. It looks very fresh.

Bubbling under: Death Cab For Cutie: What Sarah Said, Zero 7: Throw it all away, Emilie Simon: Fleur De Saison, Stephen Malkmus: Baby C'mon. Whoever directed this video must have seen the commercials Francois Vogel did for Hewlett Packard, but I like the moment when there's wool coming from the tap. Smog: Rock Bottom Riser is all nicely animated watercolours.
