The Best Music Videos of 2007

30.12.2007

It's that time of the year again. So here's my selection of the best music videos of the past year.

Justice: Dance. Directed by Jonas and Francois.

RJD2: Work It Out. Featuring Bill Shannon. This video fills me with joy and happiness. Dance is the ultimate expression of freedom and joy. Another thing that I like about this video is that his performance is "real". Of course the presence of a camera always distorts and they may have done several takes, but still, the people, cars and busses passing by are real.

Bat For Lashes: Whats a Girl To Do. Director: Dougal Wilson. Simple concept, yet almost magical.

Efterklang: Illuminant. Director Tobias Stretch definitely stretched his imagination for this one (sorry...).

Vitalic: Birds. Directed by Pleix.

Justice vs. Simian: We Are Your Friends. Don't try this at home.

I Love You But I've Chosen Darkness: The Owl. Director Emmanuel Ho. Dark animated video.

Cornelius: Like a Rolling Stone. Director: Koichiro Tsujikawa. Quite extraordinary, really.

And some more animated videos that caught my eye: J Dilla: Nothing Like This and Sao Paris: Sambaleias, directed by Benjamin Gibeaux.

Bubbling under: Liars: Plaster Casts Of Everything and Ludacris: Slap. Hip-hop as a form of cultural critique.
