Daniel Yergin: The Prize. The Epic Quest for Oil, Money and Power
I know that I'm late to the party, but this is an excellent book and required reading if you want to understand 20th and 21st century history.
Highlights From The Fall 2008 Ready-To-Wear Collections
Occasionally I see or hear something that totally bolsters my belief in human creativity. The fall 2008 ready-to-wear collections by Junya Watanabe, Rick Owens and Alexander McQueen were such an event.
There were some gorgeous pieces in the collections of Balmain, Martin Margiela, Lanvin and Viktor & Rolf (except for the rather silly NO coats). But Junya Watanabe, Rick Owens and Alexander McQueen really struck me. I could sense the energy they must have felt when inspiration struck.
As always I enjoyed browsing through all the collections, not only to see what's happening in fashion, but also to discover the patterns in my own thinking and preferences. Apart from some colourful dresses that I thought were simply beautiful, this season I appear to have a clear preference for black, grey and gold and for structure and texture, not geometrical shapes, but drapes, folds and layerings.
