The Best Music Videos of 2010

25.12.2010

In no particular order some of my favourite music videos of 2010.

The Arcade Fire: The Suburbs. Directed by Spike Jonze. I've watched it several times to figure out what it's all about.

Gil Scott Heron: New York Is Killing Me. Directed by Chris Cunningham. You really need to watch it in HD and full screen, preferably in a darkened room. It's probably even better as a video installation. It's one of those videos I wish I had made myself.

El Guincho: Bombay. Directed by Nicolás Méndez. What can I say other than that I enjoyed watching it several times?

The Scissor Sisters: Invisible Light. Directed by: Nicolás Méndez. I'm including this one because it in the same style by the same director. My guess is this will become a new trend. I should add that this is in fact a tried out style in music videos.

Johnny Cash: Ain’t No Grave. Directed by Chris Milk. I like the concept behind the video. It was made out of sketched sent in by people from around the world, based on a loose storyboard by Milk. You can read more about the Johnny Cash Project and watch the video under the link.

Janelle Monáe (feat. Big Boi): TightRope. Directed by Wendy Morgan. Best dance music video of the year from one of the best albums of the year.

Miike Snow: Rabbit. For some reason I can't get enough of this catchy song and the accompanying video.

Stretta: Calculus. Directed by Franck Trebillac. I don't like the song, but the visuals are real nice.

Mohini Geisweiller: Milk Teeth. Directed by Danakil. Beautiful and somehow quite moving.

Ametsub: Repeatedly. Directed by Lucio Arese. Reminds of the work of Lebbeus Woods and the early work of Peter Wilson. Architectural structures invade a city.

Lady Gaga: Telephone. Directed by Jonas Akerlund. I used it in some of my lectures, a reason to also include it here.

OK Go: This Too Shall Pass (Rube Goldberg Machine version). Directed by James Frost. Another Fischli and Weiss rip off, but a good one.

The Black Keys: Tighten Up. Directed by Chris Marrs Piliero. Playground memories.
