It is fun to see how the crack functions as an attractor. People trace it from beginning to end. They kneel to peek inside, test its depth and solidity. Children jump across. Some people stroll along a bit too casually and turn a foot. Couples have one partner pose for a photo with a leg on either side.

Global Cities is a pared down version of the main exhibition at last year’s Venice Architecture Biennale. When you read this, the exhibition will already have been dismantled, because I myself only visited it during its last weekend. However, some of the photos and videos on show can still be viewed online.

It seems that everybody loves Zaha Hadid, and so do I. It is hard not to love her. She designs sleek buildings and furniture, with sexy curves and sharp edges that make you want to reach out to touch and caress them.
In music, dance, theatre and cinema creating a beginning or an end is more difficult than composing the middle part, because, as in chess, the number of possibilities is limited. Just listen to the final seconds of a random selection of songs on your iPod.
