Literal Music Videos

About a year ago I wrote how the sleeveface and song chart phenomena could be seen as examples of what I provisionally termed distributed creativity. Someone has an idea, puts it online and within a few days it has been picked up, adapted and improved upon by others.

One of the latest such phenomena, or hypes if you wish, is creating a literal version of a music video, whereby the lyrics of a song are changed to match what's going on in the music video. Of course it helps if you know the original. Here's just a small selection. Beware when you browse YouTube for some more, not every singer has a good voice, which kind of ruins it.

Red Hot Chili Peppers: Under the Bridge

Billy Idol: White Wedding

A-ha: Take On Me

Radiohead: Street Spirit

Bonnie Tyler: Total Eclipse of the Heart
