An excerpt from an open studio rehearsal, February 2009. It was a big success. It's always great when the crowd grows during a performance.

The book of angels. El libro de los angeles.

Beauty in contemporary art is a dirty word. It has become the symbolic victim of an intellectual war, as Arthur Danto notes in The Abuse of Beauty. Art should reflect the world as it is, reveal what people prefer to look away from, or so the thinking goes. To pursue beauty has become tantamount to selling out to bourgeois taste.

But even when beauty no longer defines art, it continues to enthrall, captivate and delight. What's more it persists like a flower breaking through the tarmac.

To pursue beauty then, knowing that it is vain, that it will be scorned, defied, rejected and repudiated.
