Building: Museum Küppersmühle
Location: Duisburg
Architect: Herzog & De Meuron
Year of completion: 2000
Comments: The staircase is stunning and this seems to be what most visitors come for. Empty museums can invite contemplation, but they also tend to make me kind of sad. The artworks, which were made to be seen, suddenly look very pretentious and paradoxically, loose their meaning, becoming just paint on canvas or a block of wood.
