Anselm Kiefer

Building: Museum Küppersmühle

Location: Duisburg

Comments: The Museum Küppersmühle houses the collection Ströher and consists primarily of post-1950 German art with an emphasis on paintings from the 70s and 80s onwards. At the time painters such as Anselm Kiefer, A.R. Penck, Georg Baselitz, Jörg Immendorff, Sigmar Polke and Markus Lüpertz seemed to sell their work per square meter. The sublime always risks collapsing into the ridiculous and this is precisely what happens here. Some of the paintings are simply too large.
