Building: Palais de Tokyo
Location: Paris
Architect: Anne Lacaton and Jean-Philippe Vassal
Year of completion: 2002
Comments: Along with the Guggenheim Bilbao the Palais de Tokyo is one of the most influential buildings in the arts world of the last decade. Following its completion cities around the world suddenly wanted a Palais de Tokyo, a breeding ground for contemporary art and design where the city's creative people would gather to exchange ideas and engage in interdisciplinary cross fertilization. Except that this is not how it works. Cities have their own internal dynamics.
