Location: Hong Kong, Tai O
Year: 2006
Comments: Tai O is a small fishing village on Lantau, one of Hong Kong's largest islands. I'm always a bit hesitant to say this, because the inhabitants would probably rather live somewhere else, but it's quite picturesque. It's one of the last places, in Hong Kong at least, where you can see the traditional stilt housing of South Chinese fishing villages. Some of the houses in Tai O are very small, consisting of different cubicles which function as toilet, kitchen and bedroom. As in some of the other small villages around Hong Kong many of the more modern houses have an open facade at street level. If you walk past you look straight into people's living room.
