To get to Tai O you can either take the MTR to Tung Chung and then bus 11 to Tai O, which is about an hour's drive and an experience in itself, since it takes you along some pretty steep slopes. Or you can take a ferry from Hong Kong to Mui Wo on Lantau and then take the bus to Tai O. You can now also take the cable car from Tung Chung to Ngong Ping, which is quite spectacular, and then the bus. Beware that you may have to queue for more than an hour. If you want to take the cable car it's better to take it back from Ngong Ping.
