Bodie State Historic Park is a genuine California gold-mining ghost town. It lies east of the Sierra Nevada mountain range, near Yosemite National Park, at an elevation of 2,500m. Bodie became a boom town in 1876 after the discovery of gold. By 1879 the population had increased to 5,000–7,000\. In subsequent years the town went into decline and by 1915 it came to be described as a ghost town. The remains of Bodie are being preserved as they were when the town was abandoned.
