I finally hiked to the top of the Oberrothorn. It's definitely worth the effort, because the 360 views from the top are amazing. The hike itself is pretty straightforward, you only have to cope with the elevation but after one or two days of acclimatization in Zermatt that shouldn't be an issue if you're otherwise in good shape. I took the cable car up to Rothorn, climbed to Oberrothorn and then walked all the way down to Zermatt taking in some sections of the five lakes hike. Perhaps I should add that during summer the trail from Rothorn to Fluhalp is probably the ugliest part of the area around Zermatt. From Fluhalp down to Zermatt is very nice though.

The view from Rothorn

If you know where to look you can see Hotel Trift and the Rothornhütte, which is not on the Rothorn, but at the foot of the Zinalrothorn.

In the middle of the picture the [Mettelhorn](https://www.ivarhagendoorn.com/photos/mettelhorn/), which I climbed the previous day.
