Roman Theatre of Mérida

Merida was founded in the year 25 BC as Emerita Augusta by order of Emperor Augustus. The city became the capital of Lusitania province and an important city in the Roman empire. The Roman theatre in Mérida is one of the best preserved Roman theatres in the world. The site of the theatre, the amphitheatre and the circus is a UNESCO world heritage site.
