# Rome

In 2011 and in 2012 I finally visited Rome. I had a great time. I visited all the obvious places, the Forum, the Pantheon, the Vatican, the Musei Capitolini, various churches and the recently opened Maxxi designed by Zaha Hadid. The photos included here represent what caught MY eye while walking around Rome. I don't pretend to give a representative overview of Rome.

I studied Latin in secondary school but missed the excursion to Rome. I was delighted to finally visit the remains of the Forum.

I only decided to visit the Colloseum at the last minute. I'm glad I did. Despite the crowds it is quite spectacular. If you're planning on visiting the Colosseum, beware that the queue is VERY long. However, the ticket for the Roman Forum is also valid for the Colosseum (indeed it is valid for a period of 48 hours) and allows you to bypass the queue of people who still need to buy a ticket. The entrance to the Roman Forum at the Palatine hill has the shortest queue. So go there first to minimize waiting time.

One of the things I like about Rome is the layering as in this picture of the Teatro di Marcello, the arcades of which served as the foundation for the residence of the Orsini, designed by Baldassare Peruzzi, in the 16th century
