The hike from Ristis to the Rugghubelhütte is one of the best and most rewarding hikes in Engelberg. It's relatively short and the trail is well maintained. It was the day of my departure and I had originally planned to take the cable car up to Titlis to take some photos, but I decided to do a short hike instead. Engelberg is a wonderful destination for hiking and other outdoor activities and I definitely plan to go back some time.

The trail to the Rugghubelhütte. In the distance the hut is already visible. It's on the green mountain on the right.

Looking down towards Engelberg
Once you reach the Rugghubelhütte a surprise awaits, unless, of course, you have seen these photos. Unlike other huts that have been built with their back against a mountain there is a quite wonderful valley behind the Rugghubelhütte.
There was still quite a bit of snow early July, which is why some trails higher up in the mountains were still closed.
Looking down towards Engelberg. The snowy peak in the distance is Titlis. I didn't have time to visit Titlis. That'll have to wait until another time. I really enjoyed Engelberg.
The first stretch of the trail to the Rugghubelhütte is a paved road. Along the way you pass a farm where you can have a drink and buy cheese.
