I just learned that the British composer Jonathan Harvey passed away at the age of 73. I only discovered his work some two years ago, but he has since become one of my favourite composers. I particularly like his later string quartets, his work for cello, and his last cd, Speakings. One of his most famous compositions is the beautiful, haunting, angelic Mortuos Pango, Vivos Vico (1980), based on the sounds of a boy soprano and the great bells of Winchester Cathedral. To appreciate the dynamic range of his work you need a good sound system though or attend a concert, of course.
