Aareschlucht

I had put off visiting the Aareschlucht until the morning of my departure, not saving the best till last, but because I feared that it might be a bit touristy. It is indeed one of the most popular sights in the area around Meiringen, but it is so for a reason. I had so much fun taking photos that I lost track of time, which is always a good sign, and ended up taking a train later.

The Aare Gorge (Aareschlucht in German) was formed over tens of thousands of years by the Aare Glacier. The Aare Gorge is located in the Hasli Valley, between Meiringen and Innertkirchen, in Berner Oberland, Switzerland, at the foot of the Grimsel pass and the Susten pass.

You can either enter the gorge via the West entrance and exit via the East entrance (or vice versa) and then take the train or a bus back or walk back through the gorge, like I did. It takes around 45-60 minutes to walk through the gorge, depending on how many photo stops you make.

Like I said it is a bit touristy: when I arrived early in the morning there were only a handful of visitors; by the time I left the parking space at the West entrance was almost full. If you happen to be in the area I hope that my photos convince you to visit the Aareschlucht.
