The Bardenas Reales is a semi-desert or badlands in Navarra, Spain. It is situated in the triangle between Pamplona, Zaragoza and Logroño. It's really quite amazing to find such a landscape in Europe. The soils are made up of clay, chalk and sandstone and have been eroded by water and wind. Part of the area is closed off, because it serves as a bombing range used by the Spanish air force. When I was there numerous fighter jets were doing low pass overs.
