Barstow, California is a major transportation hub at the junction of the Interstate 15, the Interstate 40 and Route 66. Barstow is about half way between Los Angeles and Las Vegas. On my third trip from LA to Las Vegas (and beyond) I decided to spend an hour or two (which became three) in Barstow to explore the city's gritty edges.

The houses on this road and the road itself are slowly taken over by the desert. The house in the photos above and below are still occupied. The one with the broken windows at the bottom stood empty.
