The Námafjall Geothermal Area, also known as Hverir, is located near Lake Mývatn. There are many smoking fumaroles and boiling mud pots in the area, surrounded by sulphur crystals of many different colours. This is one of the reasons why I was so eager to finally visit Iceland. It was very windy during my visit, and that is putting it mildly, but at least it was sunny and dry, which made the colours come out particularly well.

The steam is hot by the way, it is steam after all, and smells of rotten eggs.

I spent several hours exploring the area, despite the smell.

I climbed to the top of the ridge above, which turned out to be a plateau. It was extremely windy up there, so I was forced to turn back, unable to make the round trip.

Seeing all those colorful rocks and mud pools was a childhood dream come true.
