Udaipur

My journey through Rajasthan started in Udaipur. After spending a day in New Delhi, visiting sites that didn't really appeal to me, a night train took me to Udaipur. This was my introduction to the "real" India. I couldn't square what I saw with the descriptions in my travel guide. It would take me a few days to get used to the squalor and the poverty. It didn't help that I had caught cold, either on the plane or on the night train, which affected my mood in a negative way for part of the trip.

This is actually one of my favourite photos. It captures what I was hoping to see in India.

They're everywhere

I did a classic trip through Rajasthan. Besides visiting Udaipur I visited Jodhpur, Jaisalmer and Jaipur before returning to Delhi.
