Wadi Numeira

Wadi Numeira is one of several slot canyons or "siq" in Jordan and one of the most accessible. It is located just off the Jordan Valley Highway, near the Dead Sea. Surprisingly, it receives few visitors and I basically had the canyon to myself. After only a few hundred meters the walls narrow. At various points you have to scramble across some boulders. I'm glad I made a detour to visit Wadi Numeira. It is a wonderful hike.

The start of the hike through Wadi Numeira. At this point the canyon is still wide
but the canyon soon narrows
Wadi Numeira was shaped by water so don't visit if there's a chance of heavy rain
One of the wider sections ofWadi Numeira. Beware of falling rocks.
Wadi Numeira is pretty awesome. I was genuinely surprised (and glad) there were no other hikers.
It is tempting to keep going to look what's behind the corner
This is where I returned
The difference between Wadi Numeira and the slot canyons that I've visited in Utah and Arizona is that at some sections the walls are covered with tropical vegetation
