Breithorn

I had been to Zermatt several times, but I'd never come around to climbing the Breithorn, largely because the last couple of times I had been unlucky with the weather. This time around the weather forecast had been good, but unfortunately the Breithorn was shrouded in clouds during my ascent to the top. During the descent clouds kept rolling in. One moment it looked like it was clearing and the next moment we were surrounded by fog again. It was not what I been hoping for, but I did make it to the top. I was able to make some nice atmospheric photos from the viewing platform at Klein Matterhorn. From Trockener Steg I hiked to the Gandegghütte, which offers amazing views of the Breithorn and the Theodul glacier. I'm planning to give it another shot next time I'm in Zermatt.

Late in the afternoon it finally cleared. I was so consumed by the scenery that I almost missed the last cable car down to Zermatt. I know you should always check the departure time of the last cable car, but I had forgotten to do so and I didn't expect the last cable car to descend so early in the afternoon in the middle of the summer season.
