Nigardsbreen is a glacier arm of the Jostedalsbreen glacier. It lies about 30 kilometres north of Gaupne in Sogn og Fjordane county, making it one of the most easily accessible glaciers in Norway.

At the last minute I booked a short glacier hike on Nigardsbreen. A few days earlier I had done an awesome tour of the Svellnosbreen glacier in nearby Jotunheimen National Park and I was initially afraid that doing another glacier tour so shortly after might diminish the experience. I'm glad I booked a tour on Nigardsbreen as well. It was phenomenal.

These photos were taken in 2013. When I visited again in 2016 it was pouring with rain and I was unable to take any good photos. I was shocked to see how far the glacier had retreated in the intervening years. Eager to give it another try early July 2022 I booked another tour across the Nigardsbreen, but again I was unlucky with the weather. I was once again shocked to see how far the glacier had receded after the record breaking summers of 2018 and 2019. The photos in this gallery are therefore a historical record and not representative of the current state of the glacier.
