On glorious morning in September 2014 I hiked the Matterhorn Glacier Trail from Trockener Steg to Schwarzsee. I didn't have time to also hike up to the Hörnlihütte at the foot of the Matterhorn, because I had to catch a train to Zürich for my flight back home. In 2020 I was in the vicinity of Zermatt again and with one day to spare and a good weather forecast I decided to give it another try. The hike to the Hörnli Hut is probably one the most popular trails in Zermatt and as a consequence it is quite crowded. I even noticed a number of people in jeans and trainers. The trail is relatively easy, some sections even come with metal stairs. Just beware that the Hörnli Hut is situated at an elevation of 3,260 metres. The views of the surrounding mountains are pretty awesome. I must say that I prefer the much less popular hike to the Schönbielhütte. The (new) Rothornhütte is still on my list.
